The Calm Cottages is a haven for those wishing to get away from the hustle bustle of daily life and experience nature on a grand scale. A beautiful residence nestled in the peaceful surrounding of unpoised wilderness.
The Calm Cottages is a family home offering four rooms for guests in Nathuakhan, 18 kms from Mukteshwar, 40 km from Nainital, in Uttarakhand.
We offer four inviting and tastefully decorated rooms with attached bathrooms. Each room comes with a balcony with excellent views of the surroundings. Out of these, two rooms have an attic. The attic is an added attraction for both kids and adults.
Our tag line “Come Here Do Nothing” is apt as guest actually come to us and do Nothing except rest , relax and rejuvenate. No alarm clocks required, as the guests wake up to the birds chirping and enjoy morning tea in a spectacular surrounding of mountains.
At maximum capacity of 14 people, the emphasis in The Calm Cottages is on privacy and on tranquility.
The Calm Cottages are tucked away in a beautiful little village “ Nathuakhan” , surrounded by lush green fields, Plum, Apricot and Peach trees and a panoramic view of mountains. The tranquil location, brilliant and magnificent views with its unending scenic beauty will captivate you completely. This glittering jewel in the Himalayan necklace offers a welcome break in the peaceful scenic natural splendor. We offer guests an opportunity to spend stress-free time in the serene environment surrounded by fruit and vegetable fields that provide seasonal supplies
for the homestay. Waking up to the chirping sound of various species of birds is an experience to savour.

Room Description : Our attic rooms are two-level with a double bed on the ground floor and 2 mattresses in attic.
From May-June enjoy fresh fruits from the orchards around
you. Savor fresh plucked Plums, Peaches, Apples, Pears, Apricots. Depending on the season one can explore the area and enjoy watching varied vegetation like Peas, Corn, Rajma, Haldi, Kumaoni Raddish and many more. These also form a part of meals served to our guests.
Bird Watching:
Mixed forests dominated by thick oak, pine and rhododendron ( Buransh) cover
most of the area and surrounding hills. With many forests and trekking trails, the area is also
known to have a huge number of species of birds, making it a delight for bird watchers.
You can spot Black Drongo, Dove, Common Roseflinch, Eurasian Jay, Green backed tit amongst many others.
Panoramic view of Himalayan Peaks:
on a clear day, you can see breathtaking views of the
snow-clad Himalayan peaks. You can get to see, Trishul, Nanda Devi, Panchachuli. According to
the local folktale, on a clear sunny day the mountain peaks look like Lord Shiva lying down and
mesmerized, you see Lord Shiva taking a nap right in front of your eyes.
Rejuvenating Village walks:
A walk on the rough trails of this small village will allow you to adore and respect the simplicity of people, fresh air and the quiet life.
During the walks you might find a lady milking her cow or find cows, hens and goats and all in the same vicinity. You will have the opportunity to mix up and chat with the friendly locals and learn about their life and culture . Smoke rising is not from vehicles but from the cooking fires filling the air with aromas, making your treks delicious too.
Explored and unexplored Trails:
Go for jungle walks in the woods. It is advisable to take along a local villager who knows the path well to avoid losing your path in the verdant forests. There are endless walking trails in the adjoining forests that will inspire anyone. The only sounds you’ll hear are the chirping of birds, the rustling of leaves filled with the crisp mountain air. Beautiful trails of dry leaves, twigs and rocks, surrounded by oaks and rhododendrons makes trek around
this area is a must.
A River nearby:
(Enjoy an hours trek or a drive of 6 km ): there is beautiful river, not overflowing with water hence perfect to enjoy playing ,bathing or just relaxing…with your feet in the cold
water …all of it making your trek worthwhile.
Dear Guest
We welcome you to our village home “The Calm Cottages”. The norms and guest information are being provided to help make your stay with us carefree and relaxing.
• Room service is not available. The meals are offered as per preset menu and are served in the common dining area as per the following timings.
Breakfast: 8.30 Am -10.00 Am Lunch: 1 Pm-2.30 Pm Dinner: 7.30 Pm-9 Pm
Outside food/milk/curd not allowed
Kitchen is operational from 7.30Am-9.30 Pm
Food is not served/allowed in guest rooms. We are not equipped to serve food after 9 PM so please do not insist to keep the food in casserole/dishes to be eaten later.
• Electric kettles are provided in each room, only for boiling water. Spoilage due to boiling eggs/making Maggie or due to any other reason will be charged in the final bill. Tea amenities are provided once each day. Additional can be provided on nominal cost.
• Check in: 12 Noon and Check Out: 10Am. In case of availability the guests can extend their stay for a few hours. ( Please check with us in advance)
• Loud music or noise in the guest rooms/open area is prohibited as a mark of comfort for other guests and the serenity of the village.
• In the absence of electricity we will provide hot water in buckets.
• Showers are provided in the bathroom but we request you to use buckets, as water is a scarce commodity in hills……. Let’s save water together.
• Washing of clothes is not permitted.
• Our staff is sensitive to the needs of our guests so we do not require intercoms. Please call our caretaker and he would be more than willing to serve you.
• In our endeavor to provide an atmosphere where the families can spend time together, we do not have TV’s in the rooms. Should you need, we do have a TV in our common room.
• We would appreciate your taking permission before plucking of fruits, vegetables etc. Seedlings ( Paudh) of plants /succulents can be bought from us.
• We trust our staff completely, yet we would request you to take care of your valuables by yourself. The management is not responsible for any loss of valuables
• We will not be able to offer any refunds on rents due to shortened stays or ruined expectations because of weather conditions or due to work and family emergencies or other commitments.
• We do not accept credit cards/ cheques. Please pay using Paytm/cash/bank transfer.
• For your own safety put the sigris outside the room/turn off heaters, before going to bed.
